Frederick W. Seelig, Principal Systems Engineer in Orbcomm Global, Dullas, VA.
Abstract
Orbcomm is operating the the world's first global commerical Low Earth Orbiting satellite system (little LEO). We will begin with a short overview or Orbcomm technical characteristics. Then having now been in operation for a few years now, Fred will bring us up-to-date on how the industry is evolving and where he things the industry in moving.
Orbcomm will also being launching a new plane od satellite to improve it availablity and coverage, Fred will also discuss how this effort is going and also other system improvement that are on

Bio.
Frederick W. Seelig is a Principal Systems Engineer in Orbcomm Global's Systems Engineering Dept, Dulles, VA. He received a BSEE from Purdue University and an MSEE from Georgia Tech. He was admitted to the ScD program at George Washington University, but never finished. He's worked with Harris Corporation, Palm Bay, FL, M/A-COM Linkabit, Vienna, VA, Stanford Telecommunications, Reston, VA, and CAI Wireless Systems, Inc., Arlington, VA.
He has done engineering management and engineering analysis in LEO/MEO satellite communications systems, modulation and coding theory, data compression, spread spectrum, RF propagation, cellular radio, terrestrial microwave radio, optical fiber, VSAT, traffic analysis, network design, network management, simulation, transmission control protocols, MMDS and HDTV digital television, modem design and digital hardware design. He has experience with US military satellite communications systems, GPS, commercial LEO satellites, FAA communications systems, and NASA TDRSS systems.
He is a member of the IEEE Communications Society, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and one other honorary society which he can't remember. He was a National Merit Scholarship finalist, a recipient of a few letters of commendation, and a winner of a national Microwaves & RF design contest, back when he could do RF without looking silly.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he's married to a woman he's known since sixth grade. They have two daughters. He enjoys running, traveling, and being a member of a Great Books reading club. An interesting fact is that his father fought in and survived the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II.
