We are looking for IEEE members who wish to become judges in local Science Fairs at the Elementary and High Schools. Most of these Fairs have categories for technology or we can ask that a computer and electrical engineering category be created.
We wish to insure that students at the pre-college level are encouraged to move into studies of mathematics, science and technology. We do this in an effort to promote our overall goal of improving the level of functional and technological literacy in the United States, as well as, encouraging students to think about a career in engineering. This will also help to improve our relations with the local schools.
You will not go empty handed. Both the Northern Virginia and Washington Chapters have allotted monies for prizes for each Fair, $100 for First Place and $50 for Second Place, and up to 5 Honorable Mentions. We can also invite the winners to display their projects at the IEEE awards dinner or other functions.
