ABSTRACT

Unified messaging applications and services embrace the paradigm that all voice, fax, and email messages, can be accessed from a central repository through a universal terminal device. In some cases, that device may be a computer, cellular phone, touch-tone telephone, or a proprietary Internet communications apparatus. According to the research firm, Frost and Sullivan, approximately $323 Million was spent on unified messaging products and services in the United States in 1998. The total amount expected for 2000 and 2003 are $1 Billion and $5 Billion; respectively.

There are several hundred companies throughout the United States engaged in developing unified messaging products and/or providing unified messaging services to businesses or consumer markets. All of the unified messaging platforms use integration with the Internet on some level. Businesses of all sizes are realizing the potential cost savings of unified messaging solutions from the efficiencies they yield. Remote and mobile workers can use unified messaging to integrate and more effectively manage disparate messages. In particular, Sales force automation is a vertical market that is increasingly embracing unified messaging services.

About FirstGate(TM)

FirstGate is an internet-based platform that extends the benefits of email Internet communications to any touchtone telephone or fax machine. FirstGate enables a person to initiate and send a voice message to one or multiple email recipients with just one call. From a fax machine, a person can send a document of any length to one or multiple email recipients. Unlike alternative unified messaging platforms, no special Internet hardware or software required by the sender or recipient. In addition, FirstGate servers can be clustered globally; allowing messages to be exchanged worldwide, and, at the same time, completely eliminate International toll charges associated with global voice and fax messaging.
