Dr. Shademan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Surgical Innovation at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Prior to this, Dr. Shademan was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Alberta working on supervisory control, semi-autonomy and task specification for robots in unstructured environments. He holds a PhD in Computing Science from University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB and MSc and BSc in Electrical Engineering from Ryerson University, Toronto, ON and University of Tehran, Iran, respectively.
Dr. Shademan has published several papers in medical image processing, control and estimation, and robotics. He has won numerous student scholarships and awards including a five-year PhD scholarship from the Government of Alberta.
Dr. Shademan has been an active member of IEEE for 14 years and a member of IEEE RAS for 8 years. He currently serves as a reviewer for several IEEE Transactions and conferences including IEEE T-RO, IEEE ICRA and IEEE/RSJ IROS. He was the chair of the IEEE Student Branch at Univ. of Tehran in 2000-01, where he won the Region 8 IEEE Membership Growth Award after running a successful member recruiting campaign.
Dr. Shademan's current research interest is sensor-based robot control and computer vision with applications to robotic and robot-assisted surgery.
