RFID Conference

The Orlando Section has agreed to be a technical co-sponsor for the IEEE RFID 2009 conference being held at the Disney Swan and Dolphin hotels Monday/Tuesday April 27-28.  https://www.ieee-rfid.org/2009/index.html  This is the third annual RFID conference.  RFID technology is growing rapidly in new applications, including U.S. passports, access control, animal tagging, inventory control, and even baggage handling at airports for faster retrieval and delivery (fewer lost bags).

As Publicity Chair, I have also agreed to coordinate volunteer support for the conference.
We are targeting student members for this support.  Volunteers should arrive by 7:30 a.m. each day for orientation, then expect to work a minimum of 4 hours or more to qualify for exhibits access, a CD of the papers, free visitor parking (usually $10), and lunch.

The exhibits will open for the reception after the technical papers on the first day, then be available the second day.

There will be three parallel technical sessions after the opening plenary session and each will need volunteer support.  We will need about 10 volunteers per day to do the following: We would like to start making contacts with students and getting commitments from them so we can build a schedule

Student liaisons for UCF and DeVry will be sought to coordinate volunteers from those schools.

Members from nearby sections interested in volunteering should contact George McClure to be placed on the list.  Their preferred dates should be noted as well.  Email g.mcclure@ieee.org, with RFID in the subject line, or call 407-647-5092 for further information.

Life Member Affinity Group

The Orlando section formed an affinity group for its roughly 150 life members in January.  For information or suggestions on programs life members would enjoy send email to g.mcclure@ieee.org or drdavidflinchbaugh@bellsouth.net  <--- Note the email change for David.

Life Members should mark their calendars for the Life Member reception on February 20 at the Renaissance Resort by Sea World, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  This is a free event for LMs and their companions.
