Notable increases have occurred at the Affiliate (+3), Fellow (+2), Student
Member (+4), and Graduate Student Member (+13) grades, since the last reporting
period, and slight losses at other grades. New membership drives at
local colleges and universities as well as member-get-a-member activities will
help to recruit new members to the Orlando Section.
Over the 31 days, ending on January 23, 2010, 13 new IEEE members
joined in the Orlando Section: 3 Members, 6 Student
Members, and 4 Graduate Student Members. See the attached list of new
members in the Orlando Section.
Over the 31 days, ending on January 24, 2010, 7 active IEEE members
moved into the Orlando Section: 1 Member and 6 Graduate Student
Members. See the attached list of incoming existing members to the
Orlando Section.
A Membership Development Conference Call was held on January
16, 2010. Highlights of the MDC of January 16, 2010 are attached. The
next webcast is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2010.
Recruitment Opportunity: The Orlando Section is again reminded that the
incentive program of Region 3 to increase higher-grade membership in all
Sections will last over the 2010 recruitment year, ending August 31, 2010.
Each section will be given $5 for each new, not transferred, higher-grade
member, who joins the section between September 1, 2009 and August 31,
2010.
Current members at all grades are strongly encouraged
to recruit new members at the grade of Member or higher.
Recruitment
Activity:
William Hortos will present the benefits and services of IEEE
Student Membership to the students in Professor Deborah Hall's course,
"Introduction to the Engineering Profession," February 2, 2010, at
Valencia Community College, West Campus.
Recruitment
Activity:
The IEEE Student Group at DeVry University,
Orlando, will be hosting a week of events for Engineering Week from February 15
through February 19. Please contact Chris Ragan at devryorlandoieee@gmail.com for
details of these events and to participate in them.
Recovery
Activity:
As of January 24, 2010, there remain 116 members who first joined the IEEE
Orlando Section in 2009 who have
not renewed their membership for 2010. An email message
is being issued to these members to encourage their 2010 membership
renewal in order to continue their access to the expanding
benefits of IEEE membership in 2010.
IEEE members
who do not renew their membership for 2010 by February 28, 2010 will be removed
from the list of active members at IEEE Headquarters and afterward
be denied access to all membership benefits and services.
AUTOTESTCON
2010 Conference Report :
Six or more volunteers
from the IEEE Orlando Section are needed to participate in
Registration tasks for AUTOTESTCON 2010 at the Marriott World Resort and Conference Center, September
13-17, 2010. Most importantly, these tasks include assembly of the
registrants' bags on Saturday, September 11, 2010, and early
registration during the afternoon of Sunday, September 12, 2010. Volunteers
must commit to serve this conference which historically
has provided much needed funds for the activities of the Orlando
Section. All volunteers will receive complementary access to the exhibit
areas and the technical sessions.
Since only
a few IEEE members, employees of equipment vendors in Central
Florida, have volunteered for the weekend tasks, commitments from many more
members in the Orlando Section are needed for the entire week of the
Conference.
