More About the WNC SectionThe WNC Section encompasses the area of Western North Carolina from approximately the city of Hickory on the east side, all of the Smokey Mountains to the Tennessee border on the west side. The wide geographical area is approximately 180 miles x 80 miles. The WNC section has over 300 IEEE members and is about 6% of the total NC Council IEEE membership. The section was established in November 1965. There are two student chapters, one based at the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNCA) and one based at Western Carolina University (WCU), located in Cullowhee. Benefits of IEEE membershipBenefits of joining and participating in the IEEE are documented at the IEEE web site or WNC Sections power point presentation. For a copy of the IEEE Membership Benefits power point slide show you can be either down load it or run it by clicking on the above link. GoalsOne of WNC Section goals is to provide the WNC members an opportunity to participate in technical, informational, educational and social activities. The section also wants to provide awareness of area engineering activities to the IEEE members and to encourage the growth of Engineering Technology activity in the area. We also encourage and support area Student Engineering educational programs, activities and facilitate employer participation. To achieve these goals it is essential for members to participate in section functions. Attending monthly meetings is an excellent opportunity for members to share their technical expertise, experiences and knowledge. We are open to and strongly encourage members to provide suggestions and comments. Please contact Jim Corr or anyone of our officers. To subscribe to email meeting notices and announcements, send an email to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.IEEE.ORG with the command "SUBSCRIBE WNC-SECTION YOUR NAME" in the body, without the quotes, and no subject. You will be sent an email requesting confirmation. Follow the instruction in that email and you will be added to the distribution list. |
