Design, Fabrication, and Performance of a Bidirectional DC / DC Converter Using Capacitive Triggering of High Voltage MOSFET Stack

Abstract:

This poster presents the design, simulations, and test results of an on-chip DC-DC Full Buck converter. The converter was constructed in a TSMC process, with a topology consisting of a ring oscillator, level shifter, buffer, and stacked MOSFETs. This topology outputs to the off-chip passive components completing the converter. This design has an operational frequency ranges from 1 – 20 MHz which is controlled by varying the ring oscillator input voltage. At low frequencies, test results have agreed well with simulated results as the converter, as designed, steps down voltage from 3.3 volts to 1.3 volts. The presentation will explain the design, layout, fabrication, and experimental results for this on-chip DC / DC converter.
