Results of The Third Annual BME Bio-Tech Competition

The Third Annual BME Bio-Tech Contests 2001 took place February 10, 2001. This year's theme of the
contest was to develop and present a concept using Electrical, Electronic, Biomedical, and/or Electro-Optics to
assist a persons' disability - or to improve a persons' ability to manage tasks that usually require assistance.
The contest focus is on students' individual ideas and in particular, the contest provides a forum for these future engineers to share those ideas that focus on technology assisted care.

The finalist and their proposals, as selected by a panel of eight judges, are:

1st place Jennifer Garrett - "A non-invasive device for blood glucose monitoring"

2nd place Antonio Jose Prieto Jr. - "Sight-aiding device implemented on a wheelchair"

3rd place Angel N. Martinez - "Smoke/carbon monoxide detection system for a deaf person"

4th place Anne Moore - "Analysis of human motion"

Congratulations to the finalists. They were recognized at the 46th Annual National Engineers Week Honors and Awards Gala Banquet that took place February 24, 2001.
