ABSTRACT

Credentials are essential in the professional world, and even more so in the
fields of Engineering. Credentials demonstrate accomplishment of the high
standards of professionalism, and contribute to your own sense of self-worth.
Professional licensure provides career options and opportunities that might not
have been available otherwise. A licensed Professional will become more
promotable and enjoy higher wages. Professional Engineers (P.E.) and
Professional Land Surveyors (P.L.S.) can expect salaries 15% to 25% higher than
those who are not licensed. Many jurisdictions also require engineers to be
licensed in order to practice.

Passing the four-hour Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination legally
certifies the candidate as an “Engineer-In-Training” (EIT), or an
“Engineer-Intern” (EI). The EIT or EI is usually permitted to take the
eight-hour Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination following
four more years of experience. Passing the PE exam qualifies the candidate
as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), and entitles the candidate to use
“P.E.” in their title.

The next NCEES FE Exam will be held April 16-17, 2005. Again, a series of FE/EIT
preparatory tutorials will be offered during the month of April by
the Orange County Section of the IEEE. In conjunction with UCI, an eight (8)
evening and two (2) Friday morning series of examination review sessions
will be held beginning Monday April 04, 2005 and continuing every Monday through
Thursday evening, as noted below. Each session can be attended independently.
The review sessions are free to the members of IEEE and local professional
societies. But a small amount of operation fee will be required to assist
UCI Student Chapter. The fee is $20 for IEEE members and $30 for non-IEEE members.
