Submission Guidelines

Teams enter the competition by submitting details via our Web site, including a one-page PDF and the URL of a YouTube video. Submissions will open at 8:00 AM PDT on April 10, 2016 and will close at 11:50AM PDT on April 17, 2016. Entries will be submitted online using the submittal form on this website>. You should click here to subscribe to the GameMakers maillist to be apprised of the progress of the site and the event.
    Video details:
    • The video should be 3 to 5 minutes long.
    • It should demonstrate the gameplay experience.
    • The video and/or YouTube page should make clear the name of the game.
    • Video introduction, narration, and “talking heads” are permitted, but should not be at the expense of demonstrating game play.
    • The video must not be modified after the submission is made.

    A one-page PDF document which provides an overview of the game is also required. A template is shown here. This one-pager should include the following elements and must not use a font smaller than 9 point:
    • Title and one-sentence game description (“elevator pitch”)
    • List of team members and their colleges or universities, with contact emails.
    • Target platform and target audience.
    • One-paragraph gameplay summary.
    • Brief list of key features and game objective(s).
    • One or more examples of game art.
    • One faculty member name and email address and primary school affiliation.
    • Web link for YouTube video (further information about game, game download, development team, etc. may be added to YouTube video page).
    • The game must reasonably be expected to receive a rating of either “E” or “T” from the Entertainment Software Rating Board [ESRB], based on ESRB’s criteria as of the announcement date of this showcase.
On the day of the event:
  • Ten finalists will present their work to the live audience on the day of the event.
    • finalists will be selected by a committee of judges drawn from the local industry and universities
    • actual gameplay for at least one game level must be demonstrated by a live player on stage (pre-recorded videos are not acceptable)
  • Presenters should be prepared to connect their machines (via VGA or DVI and separate audio) to the video projector and are expected to test their setups prior to the event. The room will open three hours prior to the event for this purpose.Please arrive early and allow time for troubleshooting. If you are unable to connect a machine and demonstrate your game at the event, your team will be disqualified.
  • A panel of judges from the industry will view all of the presentations and select the winners. Judges' decisions are final.
  • Following the event, all teams who submitted qualified entries are invited to demonstrate their games at the event reception (space is limited, so please let us know if you plan to do so).
