The Orange County Computer Society Executive Committee

The Orange County Chapter of the IEEE Computer Society is managed by the Orange County Computer Society (OCCS) Executive Committee (Excom). The OCCS Excom consists of four elected Computer Society volunteers filling the offices of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary, and the appointed Chairs of the temporary and standing committees as listed below. Management decisions are made and implemented at the local level by the members of the Excom and its sub-committees. Any Computer Society member in good standing is elgible to volunteer to participate in the management of our local chapter or to run for one of the four elected offices.

Chapter Chair Manage the operations of the Chapter in the best interest of the local members and to provide leadership, guidance and a sense of purpose for other Chapter volunteers.
Chapter Vicechair Assist the Chapter Chair in managing the operations of the Chapter in the best interest of the local members and to provide leadership, guidance and a sense of purpose for other Section volunteers. The Vice-Chair is a Chairman in training. In addition, our Vice-Chair handles the venue arrangements for the presentation and other events.
Treasurer and Arrangements The Treasurer, an integral voting member of the Executive Committee, helps the IEEE maintain its nonprofit tax-exempt status by maintaining fiscal accounts and records. In addition, our Treasurer handles the financial aspects for the presentation and other events. There are certain forms that must be filed with the Section Excom and IEEE National HQ that are critical to the operationof this IEEE Chapter.
Secretary and Awards The Secretary, an integral voting member of the Executive Committee, manages the records and correspondence of the chapter, records the minutes and determines the agenda of the monthly Excom meetings. The Secretary also manages the awards and certificates for the volunteers and presenters. There are also certain forms that must be filed with the Section Excom and IEEE National HQ that are critical to the operation of this IEEE Chapter, that should be coordinated with the Teasurer.

Programs Chair

 

Responsible for the monthly programs. Solicit and organize programs and presentations for the monthly general meetings, and ensure that the speaker's requirements are fulfilled. Provide the Speaker's Bio & Abstract to the Webmaster for posting and to Publicity for publication. Communicate speaker requirements to the arrangements chair, and speaker information to the Awards Chair.
Publicity Maintain a list of contacts and publication dates for local OC media. Post announcements of monthly events in a timely fashion (usually the first of the month presceeding the event).
Webmaster Post presentation announcements online. Maintain OCCS.IEEE.ORG website ensuring that all information is current, and maintain homepage links to online announcements and files of past presentations (monthly). Post monthly newsletter and link, and excom minutes and link. Maintain online monthly calendar of IEEE-OC chapter meetings and OC tech events of interest to the IEEE membership.
Editor Convert the coming month's calendar info into emailable text, edit and email the monthly eNewsletter with letter form the Section Chair. Append IEEE-OC Chapter's announcements.
Membership Support members' interests and encourge greater presentation attendance.
Volunteers Recruit volunteers, maintain Volunteers of Orange County email list, and announce and encourage volunteer opportunities.
Committee Chairs Preside at meetings of the committee. Encourage volunteers and appoint committee members. Organize and manage committee projects. Report the committee's progress to the Excom and represent the committee at the Excom.
