Shannon’s Theorem

• Shannon’s theorem defines the maximum information carrying capacity of a channel, in the presence of noise:

bps = BW log2 (1 + P/N)

where: BW is signal bandwidth

P/N is the signal power to noise power ratio

(note: this is not a dB ratio)
