Required Signal to Noise Ratio for 56Kbps
Assuming a bandwidth of 3800 hz (from 200 hz to 4Khz), the required SNR is (from Shannon’s theorem):
bps = BW log2 (1 + P/N)
bps = BW log2 (1 + 10 SNR/10)
SNR = 10 log (2 bps/BW -1)
SNR > 44.36 dB
This is very achievable on real lines.
