Gift of Reading Program
(sponsored by San Jose Mercury and Kids in Common)

On December 3,2005  one IEEE volunteer (David Fong and his children) sorted about two thousand books and packaged them into various boxes for distribution.  This year there seemed to be less books, maybe due to less advance notice from San Jose Mercury.  We had fun with the other volunteers from different non-profit organizations such as WIE (Women In Engineering).

Books were distributed by Mark Hooper and David Fong to the following schools between December 11-14,2005.

Thanks to "Kids in Common" and "San Jose Mercury"
we were able to sort books and distribute books
to over 1890 children in the Santa Clara Valley Area.
Most are from low-income immigrants families.
About 200 books were in Spanish for elementary and middle school level.
