Ray Findlay started his teaching career at the University of New Brunswick (1967-81) before joining McMaster University in 1981, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Ray has been a Visiting Fellow at Universities in England and Belgium as well as a Visiting Fellow in the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Australia. He is a partner in JDRF Electromagnetics, a company which specializes in industry applications for low frequency electromagnetic power devices. Ray has about 175 refereed technical papers and 3 patents in electromagnetic fields and losses in electrical power devices. Ray is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Engineering Institute of Canada. He was awarded the Canadian Pacific Railway Medal for Leadership; IEEE Canada Medal - Wally S. Read Service Award, A.G.L. McNaughton Medal; other awards for professional service and leadership. He has served on the IEEE Board of Directors, 1994-7, 2001-3, as President, IEEE-Canada (1995), as IEEE Vice-President, Regional Activities, 1996-7, and as IEEE President in 2002. In addition to various regional positions, he has been active in several IEEE Societies, including Magnetics, Industry Applications and the Power Engineering Society, and is currently IEEE Canada Director Emeritus.

Ray also serves on the IEEE Canadian Foundation, as well as the Council of the Engineering Institute of Canada, where he is currently the Chair of the History Committee. He has a special interest in the history of engineering education in Canada.
