Location: Fort William Building, Conference Room 314
Action:
Yves to include Terry Hussey in his distribution list.
Action:
Mike to send the summary notes of the Marconi / Wally Read meeting to the
IEEE executive.
Action:
Mike to bring February 13th pizza receipt to February 23th NECEC meeting
so that Doug can reimburse Yves.
Action:
Prior to next meeting IEEE executive members should give some thought to
what type of speaker gifts would be appropriate.
Action:
Academic folks to examine the Karachi request in greater detail and
advise the executive of an appropriate response.
Action:
Mike to arrange for a conference room and refreshments for the next
meeting. And will attempt to accommodate Eric's request for a candy or
cookie dessert.
Minutes from the Jan. 16 meeting were reviewed. Executive members happily identified two errors.
The first is that the entity identified as co-signor for the section in the "Summary of Action Items" (i.e., Region 7) should actually be IEEE Central located in the United States.
The second pertains to the submission of funding proposals. Ignore whatever the previous notes say. The McNaughton Centre proposal has been submitted to the IEEE Canada Foundation for funding. The receiver-construction-contest proposal has been submitted to the provincial government and Region 7 for funding.
Action:
Yves to approach Craig Warren to assess his willingness to join the
executive.
Craig has declined. Jack Casey will consider but has concerns about the amount of time/effort he can contribute. Note: subsequent to this meeting, Todd Hynes of Newfoundland Power agreed to join the executive. Welcome aboard Todd!
Action:
Siu to contact Bill O'Keefe to request a tour of Telepix facilities for
25th. If Bill is not available, Siu will arrange something with
Khalid.
Complete. Tour was well attended and well received.
Action:
Doug to ensure that we are in compliance with all aspects of the IEEE
edict concerning the assignment of a co-signor from IEEE Central (not
Region 7).
Carry over. Doug was not present at meeting.
Action:
Yves will arrange a meeting to discuss how the Section can work with
Wally Reid to support and contribute to the activities associated with
this year of Marconi. Frank Davis will also be invited to this meeting.
Complete.
Follow-Up Action:
Mike to send the summary notes of this meeting to the IEEE executive.
Action:
Dennis and Kathleen will update the IEEE mailing list.
Carry over. Kathleen has made some progress.
Action:
Siu will check to see if IEEE Region 7 has made a decision with respect
to the Marconi proposal.
Carry over.
Action:
Mike will make arrangements for refreshments for the next meeting.
Complete. Yum.
Follow-Up Action:
Mike to bring pizza receipt to February 23th NECEC meeting so that Doug
can reimburse Yves.
Technical Activities
Dennis has arranged for a technical tour of C-Core facilities on March 8.
Siu will schedule a tour of IMD facilities for May 14th week.
June 8th is the tentative date for the annual Lobster Boil.
Neonatal talk will likely be sometime in the fall (maybe October as the BIG conference is in September).
Finance
Yves advised that we may need more trinkets / speaker gifts. We have only a few cups and a couple of shirts left.
Action:
Prior to next meeting IEEE executive members should give some thought to
what type of speaker gifts would be appropriate.
Student Activities
Siu has asked the student branch for volunteers.
Employee fair has been delayed until March.
Membership Development
Database is up to date as of January membership.
Newsletter
Newsletter is on schedule for a May publication ... thanks to the tireless efforts of Kathleen and Mike.
NECEC 2001
Inaugural meeting has been conducted. See Yves' comprehensive summary notes for details of the meeting.
Region 7 spring meeting / CCECE 2001
The Region 7 meeting runs from May 11 -- 13th. Yves and Eric will attend as Eric is already going to CCECE 2001 to present. As such, the incremental cost to have Eric attend the Region 7 meeting is anticipated to be less than $200. It would be even less if Yves and Eric would agree to share a room, however, they are reluctant to do so.
IEEE Karachi link with academia
Action:
Academic folks to examine the Karachi request in greater detail and
advise the executive of an appropriate response.
National Engineering Week
National Engineering Week is March 3 - 10th. And, yet again, we have nothing ready nor planned. Will we have a presence this year? Probably not as the forum does not lend itself well to the section's current mandate and direction. If anyone has any suggestions as to how we can avoid being in a similar situation next year, please bring such suggestions to our next meeting.
The next meeting will be held on March 13, 2001 at the Fort William Building.
Action:
Mike to arrange for a conference room and refreshments. And will attempt
to accommodate Eric's request for a candy or cookie dessert.
