Technical Presentation - Spacecraft Formation Flying Control: A Decentralized Approach

Abstract
In this presentation, the control problem for a number of cooperative spacecraft with communication constraints will be investigated and a solution presented involving a proposed decentralized controller. The efficacy of the proposed method is then demonstrated through simulations.
Speaker Biography:
Amir G. Aghdam received the B.A.Sc. degree from Isfahan University of Technology, Isfahan, Iran and the M.A.Sc. degree from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, both in Electrical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto in 2000 and is presently an associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University. Dr. Aghdam has published more than 70 refereed papers and holds two patents with the US Patent Office. He served as Chair of the IEEE Montreal Section and Chair of the Control Systems Chapter of the IEEE Montreal Section in 2005 and 2006, and is presently Chair of the IEEE Eastern Canada Area. Dr. Aghdam has received more than $2.0M research grant since June 1, 2002 (as an individual or joint grantee) and has been a consultant for Centillium, Inc. and GlobVision, Inc. He was an associate editor of the 2007 IEEE Conference on Control Applications and is presently an associate editor of the IEEE Systems Journal and a member of the editorial advisory board of the Recent Patents on Electrical Engineering journal. Dr. Aghdam is a member of Professional Engineers of Ontario and a senior member of the IEEE.

Presenter: Dr. Myron Kayton, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer
Topic: History of Navigation
Please join us as we welcome Dr. Myron Kayton, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, for his presentation on the History of Navigation. Refreshments will be served in the Faculty Lounge afterwards.
Speaker Biography:
Dr. Kayton is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, was an elected member of the corporate board of directors, and served two terms as president of its Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS). He has been technical chairman for several conference sessions, keynote speaker, and an active member of standards committees for navigation sensors and computers for nuclear power plants. Dr. Kayton taught at UCLA and is a IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. He is the author of numerous papers and of the standard reference text, Avionics and Navigation Systems (1st and 2nd editions) and of Navigation: Land, Sea, Air, and Space. He is a past recipient of the IEEE's Millennium Medal. He is listed in Who's Who in Engineering, Who's Who in America, and in American Men and Women in Science.

IEEE Student Night

The Faculty of Engineering at Memorial is holding its annual "IEEE Student Night". This event is an opportunity for graduating engineering students to present and demonstrate their senior design projects. The evening will begin at 7:30 sharp in room EN1040 of the Faculty of Engineering with the presentation of three top projects:
- "Interactive Projection Screen" by Jamie Warren
- "Wireless Calibration of a Distributed Sensor Grid" by Sushil Sanchetti
- "Hardware Implementation of Kasumi with Parity-Based Concurrent Error Detection" by Robert Powell
Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity to see demonstrations of all projects. Finally, the evening will conclude with the presentation of awards and consuming of pizza and drinks.
Any interested parties are encouraged to attend the evening. Students certainly will appreciate an opportunity to show the accomplishments of their final year projects to their fellow engineers.
