The IEEE VTS & AESS Joint Greece Chapter in cooperation with COSMOTE Mobile Telecommunications S.A. organized, in 19/12/2011, a visit at COSMOTE S.A. premises in Thessaloniki, for a group of students of Electronics Department of Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki. The visit was realized in the context of the course “Telecommunications III” aiming to give the students the opportunity to get in touch with applied mobile communication systems. The visit lasted 3 hours and included 3 major parts, prepared and presented by Mr. Christos Kavakopoulos (Senior Engineer - Network Quality Group Leader): (i) a brief presentation on applied contemporary mobile telecommunications technologies including the network architecture, multiple access, call control, mobility control, and the physical layer techniques, (ii) a visit at the Network Management Center (NMC) of Northern Greece where the students were introduced to the methods and techniques of network supervision and fault management (iii) a visit at the testbed where standard Base Station (BTS) and transmission equipment were presented along with their corresponding functionality. The students were supervised by Assistant Professor (IEEE Liaison) Athanassios Iossifides.
