The UAE Ministry of Interior is implementing an ambitious National ID system and infrastructure for Identity management. The high-tech infrastructure of the project combines biometrics with PKI enabled smart cards and a national centralized population register database. The project is the first of its kind in the region and the second worldwide to be implemented on a national level. The project is led by H.H. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the undersecretary of the ministry of interior and sponsored by highest authorities in the country. This seminar will present background to the project including goals, benefits, and organizational setup and covering legal aspects for the use of the digital infrastructure with emphasis on the implemented technologies.
