Patrick Donohoe Region 3 Student Activities Chair The Call for Papers for the 1998 IEEE Region 3 Professional Issues Student Paper Contest has been sent to all student branches in the Region via e-mail and will be included in the Student Activities Newsletter to be mailed shortly. Each paper entry should be sent to the Regional Student Activities Chair by February 28, 1998. The winner will be notified by March 15, 1998. We plan to invite the Region 3 winner to Southeastcon '98 and present him/her with a certificate at the Conference Awards Luncheon. The six Regional winners will present their papers at the 1998 PACE Conference and Workshop to be held September 4-7, 1998 at the Pointe Hilton Resort at Squaw Peak in Phoenix, Arizona. The paper judged most outstanding will be recognized with an award of $200 while the runner-up will receive $100. The IEEE Student Activities Committee (SAC) plans to conduct the IEEE World Wide Student Branch Website Contest during 1998. This contest has been in the planning stages for some time but the go-ahead came only recently. Each region will conduct a Student Branch Website Contest and the top three regional entries will be submitted to a SAC Judging panel. These thirty entries will be judged and receive the following awards: 5 Gold Award Winners at $200 each, 10 Silver Award Winners at $100 each, and 15 Bronze Award Winners at $50 each. The judging criteria and associated scoring weights are content, links/e-mail addresses, originality, ALT tags, graphics, appeal, and load time.
