Dave Green Fr: Dale Caston Subj: Report 1998 was a good year and as it was noted in my Newsletter article, our Region along with other regions experienced membership growth that was led by increases in student members. We are hopeful that this growth will continue and IEEE will meet the needs of its old and new members. The IEEE financial reports that were given at the Board of Directors meeting November, 1998 indicate our organization is still in a healthy financial position. Speaking of finances, we are very happy to have our own David Conner, a past Region 3 Director, selected to serve as IEEE Treasurer for 1999. David will be a good watchdog over the finances. At this Executive Committee meeting in Birmingham, we will welcome Ken Laker, IEEE President for 1999 and his wife Mary Ellen. They will be with us Friday night and most of Saturday before flying out to other engagements late Saturday. I am sure Ken will visit some of our committee meetings while he is in Birmingham. Some of the goals that I have this year are: 1. Encourage the sections that do not have calendar year officers to switch to that mode. This is being recommended to cut expenses on the number of times the IEEE Organization Rosters must be printed and to make year-end reporting easier. 2. Continue the Membership Development Initiative that Bill Harrison and his committee has undertaken. Much work has been done, but there is still more to be accomplished. 3. Schedule the fall EXCOM meeting at the same location as the following year's Southeastcon. 4. Encourage participation by more sections at the annual PACE Leadership conference. In 1999 it will be held Labor Day weekend in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. 5. Continue polices that will insure a strong financial position for our Region. Each of our Executive Committee members are encouraged to set goals for this year and make plans to achieve those goals. Also, your help is requested to see that each section has two representatives to attend the Region 3 Meeting and training sessions that will be held with Southeastcon '99 in Lexington, Kentucky.
