Area 6 (Alabama and Mississippi) Report Alabama Section The Alabama Section and the Montgomery Subsection are alive and well. This section continues to have strong technical societies and outstanding programs for 2002. The Alabama Section has chapters in Industry Applications, Communications, Power Engineering, Engineering Management, and Computers. A number of our members participated in Engineers' Week functions, including a legislative reception in Montgomery that including Governor Don Siegelman The Alabama Section hosted a Vehicular Technology Society Conference in Birmingham on May 6 -9, 2002. For current section information, visit their outstanding web site at https://www.eng.uab.edu/ieeea/ Huntsville Section The Huntsville Section was active in holding several technical meeting throughout the year as well as monthly ExCom meetings. Some of the Sections meetings were held in conjunction with Societies so as to present to broader attendees. The presentations included Advances in RADAR Technology, Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis, Short Pulsed UWB RADAR Systems, Power and Deregulation Status in North Alabama, Ultra Wide Band Antenna Efficiency, and Overview of Neural Networks. The local Societies were also very active. The Section was also able to establish a new Joint Communication, Antenna Theory and Propagation, and Microwave Theory and Technique Society. The Computer Society was revitalized with the help of late Mr. John Wiley. The Section was also active in judging with the Regional and State Science and Engineering Fair. The Section presented multiple awards to senior and junior engineering and scientists of our future. The Section has been busy trying to prepare for several large conferences that will be held in 2002 and 2003 in Huntsville, including AUTOTESTCON 2002 on Oct 14-17, 2002, the Advances of Signal Processing for Military Applications on October 28-29, 2002, and RADARCON in 2003. Mobile Section - There is no Mobile Section news to report. Mississippi Section Report In December 2001, the following were elected to office: Dr. Ray Franco, Ph.D., Chair; Dr. Andy Harrison, Ph.D., Vice-Chair; Mr. Lee Hall, Secretary; and Mr. Joe Savage, Treasurer. Dr. Andy Harrison moved to Huntsville AL in May, and he was replaced via special election by Mr. George Sidders. Dr. Ray Franco, is also serving as the sections web master, and for the first time the website has been kept up to date and used for meeting notices and special events.
