IEEE Area 3 Report for Southeastcon 2004 22 March 2004 Area 3 comprises most of Georgia, including the following three sections: Atlanta Section: https://www.ieee-atlanta.org/ Central Georgia Section: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/central_georgia/ Savannah Section: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/savannah/ All of the sections have had excellent meetings and I encourage you to visit their respective websites for details. The Atlanta Section is moving their monthly newsletter, The Atlanta Circuit, to a more electronic format. Hardcopy versions will initially be offered on a quarterly basis. The move toward electronic distribution of important Atlanta Section news helps save printing and postage costs. It also allows the section to provide information in a more timely fashion. The Savannah Section was pleased to have the IEEE Board of Directors and associated committees meet in Savannah in February. The Section participated in an Engineering Week Conference on Feb. 26th on Tybee Island in cooperation with several other societies. Members are volunteering as Science Fair judges in Georgia and South Carolina. The Section has also volunteered to offer a day of courses as part of a summer Engineering academy for local high school students. Planning continues on the section's celebration of its 50th Anniversary on Thursday October 14 2004. I look forward to hosting an e-conference among Area 3 sections in the near future. I believe e-conferencing will improve communication between the sections and their respective members. It should also improve communication between the three sections in Area 3 and Region 3. Other goals include improving our outreach to fellow IEEE members and local students and increasing participation at all levels. I believe the three sections in Area 3 will be well represented at the next Region 3 meeting in Greensboro. The next Area 3 meeting will be on Friday, 26 March 2004. Please refer to the 2004 SouthEastCon website or program literature for specific times and locations. Everyone is welcome to attend and I hope to see you there. Respectfully submitted, Christopher R. Hardy Area 3 Chair
