IEEE REGION 3 AREA 9   

REPORT TO REGION 3 EXCOM MARCH, 2004

The IEEE Jamaica Section continues to provide leadership in the area
of electrical, electronics and computer engineering. The Section is
striving to become the most outstanding in the Region.  The EXCOM of
the Section meets and plan activities for each upcoming monthly
general meeting.

The goals of the section for 2004 are as follows: 
1.	Increasing the number of Senior Members by 3. 
2.	Meet with the Jamaica Government Minister with the responsibility 
    for Technology, with the view of influencing technological 
    decisions on behalf of the country.
3.	Meet with the Jamaica Governor General.
4.	Hosting a Technological Seminar or Discussion Forum
5.	Increasing UWI student participation in SoutheastCon 
6.	Sending Delegates to SoutheastCon 2004 and PACE Activities


Student Branches:

Both student branches, The University of the West Indies and the
University of Technology, Jamaica remain committed to the ideals of
the IEEE. The UTech branch is actively preparing to compete in the
student contests at SoutheastCon 2004.  This student branch was
commended on several occasions for their effective involvement and
implementation of SoutheastCon2003.

Communications Society Chapter

The Communications Society Chapter (ComSoc) of the IEEE Jamaica
Section continue to make their contribution to the development of
members in Area 9.
