Past-Director's Report This is my first report as Past-Director for the Region, and I was hoping to be able to tell you that I now have more time to dedicate to the Region, however that has not been the case thus far. My first priority is to support and assist in any way possible, our new Director and my friend Bill Harrison. He has established a list of Goals and Objectives (G&O's) for the Region that I fully support and want to help him accomplish, and we will need YOUR help in getting this done. My own goal for the Region, was to have all Sections obtain an additional 10% rebate by filing their three required reports in a timely manner (by February 20th). I sent out many reminders about the filing dates along with the then current status of the Sections and I am pleased to report that, by all indications, the Region had 38 of its 41 Sections file in time to get these additional funds for our members - Great Job! One of Bill's goals was to have a teleconference with all the Sections in Region 3 and he has asked that I coordinate this for the Region. This is being accomplished Area by Area within the Region. To-date we have held teleconferences with Area 4 (Florida Council) and Area 8 (Kentucky & Indiana). Bill and I, as well as the local Section representatives, learned a great deal from these teleconferences, and we hope to follow up with at least one more teleconference for each Area before the end of the year. I am also working with other Committees within the Region and will be serving on both the Financial Committee(FinCom) and the Strategic Planning Committee(SPC) for the Region. I am also serving as a Mentor for the Professional Activities Committee, Director for our SouthCon Show, and Chairing the Region 3 Nomination and Appointments Committee. On the IEEE level, I am serving in the following positions: - IEEE Audit Committee - Consultant - IEEE Membership Devleopment Committee - IEEE-USA Liason - IEEE Nominations and Appointments - Member - IEEE-RAB Nominations and Appointments - Member - IEEE-RAB Sections Congress 2005 Steering Committee - Chair So, as you can see, ending up with a great deal of "extra time" to dedicate to the Region has not been the case, but I will still have time to help you and your committee or Section in any way possible. Please share with me your concerns, comments, and suggestions and we will work to make sure Region 3 continues to be the outstanding Region in the IEEE. Jim Howard Region 3 Past-Director 2002-2003
