Section Activities
The technical meetings within the Atlanta Section are held by the various local chapters. Currently, there are 15 local chapters within the Atlanta Section. 2 of these chapters (EM-14 - Engineering Management and VT-06 - Vehicular Technology) are inactive and are planned to be closed in 2008. During 2007 and early 2008, 13 of the local chapters held technical meetings.
The Section holds monthly Ex-Com meetings to facilitate communication within the Atlanta Section and encourage involvement with the various technical activities hosted by the local chapters. The main event hosted by the Atlanta Section is the banquet, held in the spring. At the banquet, the Atlanta Section recognizes the new IEEE Fellows within the Atlanta Section. The 2008 banquet is scheduled for May 15, 2008.
The Atlanta Section is co-hosting SouthEastCon 2009 with the IEEE Student Branch of Georgia Tech on March 5-8, 2009 with the theme, Engineers Making the World a Better Place.
Goals for the Atlanta Section are to: 1) improve communication within the Atlanta Section, 2) be the interface to distribute the benefits of being a IEEE member to the Section, 3) provide financial and resource support to the various local sections, and 4) develop infrastructure to host 'big' events within the Atlanta Section.
