Opportunities for Engaging the Member, Volunteer, and Non-Member:
-
EMBS and MTTs/APs/EDs Chapters have held two joint meetings. Seminar #1 at USF – "Microwave Antennas for Medical Applications", Seminar #2 at TRAK – "Phantoms for Evaluation of Interactions between Antennas and the Human Body".
-
The section continues it involvement in the IEEE's "Teacher In Service" educational program. Our TISP Chairman recently attended the Hillsborough County science fair as a judge and awarded an IEEE Section cash award and certificate to the winning student. Additionally, outstanding Math / Science teachers from three counties were selected for the 2008 Lignell teaching awards.
-
The SP/Comm Chapter is planning for its first two meetings to be held on March 6 on the Effects of Connector Endface Geometry on High Speed Optical Systems at USF and on April 16th on a Branch and Bound Approach to Multi-user Detection in Asynchronous CDMA.
- The PES/IAS chapter has already held a luncheon on Nuclear, Renewable and Emerging Issues. Their goal for 2008 is to have one meeting per month. Additionally, they are planning on having "color" book seminars in the future during 2008.
Notable Section Activities:
- The section successfully held it's 8th annual "Celebrate Engineering" banquet on February 15th as a kick-off to Engineering Week. This engineering awards banquet will be held in partnership with AFE, ASHRAE, ASME, AIChE, & SNAME. There are discussions afoot to see if next year's banquet can be combined with the FES engineering banquet which is held at the same time.
- The PACE group is planning on hosting a Leadership Workshop with the IEEE's lobbyist, Russ Harrison, on May 22. The PACE chapter is working out the details of this workshop.
