Tuesday Luncheon Speaker Peter B. leach
Mr. Peter Leach is President and CEO of Communications and Information Technology Ontario (CITO), a new organization formed by the merger of the Information Technology Research Centre (ITRC) and the Telecommunications Research Institute of Ontario (TRIO). CITO — one of the four new Centres of Excellence established the initiative of MEDT&T’s Technology and Training Ontario Program — is a major generator of high quality graduates and of ideas, knowledge and technology for the Telecom, Communications, I.T. and emerging digital media companies of Ontario through the world class research of Ontario’s leading academic researchers and their students.
Mr. Leach was the President of TRIO for 9 years, initiating a variety of collaborative projects and technology transfers including Masters and Ph.D. research internships in industry and a research exchange agreement with the National Electronics and Computers Technology Centre of Thailand.
He joined TRIO from Bell Northern Research (now Nortel Technologies) after 10 years in technology planning and senior management with BNR/NT. His most recent role in BNR was that of Director of Technology Acquisition. Major accomplishments with BNR/NT were the justification of NT’s $250M investment in 1.25 micron CMOS technology and in high speed Gallium Arsenide device technology.
Mr. Leach graduated from Cambridge University, England with an Honours Master of Arts in Engineering in 1969. His academic studies were supplemented with a Post-Graduate Honours Diploma in Operational Research from Liverpool University in 1973.
