On 9 March 2006, The BITS-Pilani, Dubai Campus Student Branch of IEEE organised a workshop on Electronic Design Automation Tools, laying special emphasis on the PSpice software. Extending after college hours from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, a full three and a half hours, it was attended by 32 pre-registered students out of which 29 were IEEE members and 3 were non-members making it a fund raising event for the Student Branch. Four student instructors, namely, Vivek SM, Riyan Ayesha, Aditya Jain and Vandana Bansal helped manage the technicalities of the workshop.
The programme was arranged in two sessions. The first one, the Intro Session took place in the Computer Laboratory. It was conducted by Dr. G. Vijaya, the Councillor of the IEEE Student Branch, who gave a brief introduction on EDA Tools, and the need of using them. Special highlight was put on PSpice. This was followed by a question answer session. In the break, which was for thirty minutes, light refreshments were served.
The second session of the workshop came next, which took place in the Engineering Graphics Laboratory. This was a Hands-On Session. Vivek S.M conducted majority of this part of the event. Three examples were given to students to do. Handouts were prepared by Vivek for this purpose and were distributed to the students. The last leg was hence a thoroughly interactive session, giving hands on experience to students about the PSpice software which they had learnt about in the first half of the workshop.
The workshop went along smoothly, being a productive and interactive experience for all at the end of the day.
