Hello to all from IEEE Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Student Branch, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. I wish to inform you what we have done and what we are about to do! On 5 December 2005, IEEE NAU SB conducted a successful, free and fair election of their new executives for 2005/2006 academic session. On 4 January 2006, the newly elected executives and some members of IEEE NAU SB visited the University of Ibadan, Nigeria to welcome W. Cleon Anderson, 2005 IEEE President and Harry Goldstein, Senior Associate editor IEEE Spectrum for their three days visit to Nigeria. Another event that took place at NAU by IEEE SB was the celebration of the fourth Anniversary of the branch. During this week, we have organised several different activities, such as visiting to prospective student branches that are within Anambra State. The IEEE NAU SB will visit Federal Polytechnic, Oko; Anambra State University of Science and Technology, Uli and Madonna University, Okija; membership promotion campaign/awareness of SB members by visiting all the electro-tech Departments of the institution to give speeches to the students on the benefits of the IEEE. This will also involve the distribution of promotional materials that will be sent to the Branch by women in Engineering (WIE) and IEEE Headquarter. As part of the promotion, a 40% discount on student dues will be offered to those intending to join; technical visit to V-mobile Telecommunication Company in Port-Harcourt, which is one of the biggest telecommunication company in Nigeria; the fourth Student professional Awareness conference(SPAC); a technical evening/movie night; free on-line access for IEEE NAU-SB members at IEEE NAU-SB IT Centre to explore the benefits of the the IEEE to students and how to use the IEEE website efficiently as most of the benefits are web-based.
