A new student branch appears in Spain
The IEEE University of Oviedo Student Branch in Spain was officially approved on 15 November 2005. The University of Oviedo is an old public institution serving more than 40,000 students, 2,000 teachers and researchers on five campuses in Asturias, Spain. In October 2004, five students of Computer Sciences and Engineering were in charge of the formation for establishing a new student branch. In 2005 they started with more than fifty new IEEE student members from the University and finally, they completed its formation in October 2005. Whereas they were waiting for news from IEEE Student Services, a couple of members were invited to assist in the 2005 National Student Branch Congress, in Valencia, Spain. On 20 November, this new student branch has news for being established and beginning to work. The student branch is protected by School of Computer Sciences of Oviedo (EUITIO). It has offered an office to set up his headquarters and to use all infrastructures. This branch is helped by teachers and researchers of the Computer Sciences Department at the University. Between staff members, there are a Counselor: Agustín Cernuda del Río, and two Mentors: Juan Manuel Cueva Lovelle and Darío Álvarez Gutiérrez. The student branch is still planning new activities: practical workshops and study visits: lecture series in software programming, web engineering, operating systems, digital documenting systems and computer security.
