University of Zagreb, Croatia
Since this is the year in which the whole world celebrates 150 years of Nikola Tesla, we decided to give our contribution too. Our major goal was to remind our students of Tesla's roots and to undertake a field trip to Smiljane, near Gospic, where he was born. Smiljane is some 200 kilometers south of Zagreb. Around fifty participants of this field trip consisted mainly of our branch members and other students. The trip lasted for one whole day, we visited the house where Tesla was born and enjoyed lovely scenery and almost untouched nature in the surrounding araea. Of course, we enjoyed the barbecue and drinks too. :) Our tour of Nikola Tesla didn't stop here. The next day we organized a guided visit to the Zagreb Technical Museum which holds a permanent exhibition of Tesla's inventions. Our hosts from the museum were happy to prepare and conduct some of Tesla's famous experiments like the one with HF currents. Our members and guests were delighted with this rare opportunity. After this fabulous experience in Technical Museum we organized a lecture on the life and work of Nikola Tesla. The lecture took place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb. It was presented by several of our members who put significant effort in selection of the most important and the most interesting facts from life and work of this great inventor. Especially for this edition of the Region 8 News, members of Zagreb Student Branch gathered around Nikola Tesla's statue in the hall of our University, and paid tribute to this great man, scientist and inventor.
