The IEEE LEOS BNL Student Chapter organized a visit on the 2 March 2006 to the main research facility of BARCO, in Kuurne, Belgium. An international flavored mix of participants from Belgium and The Netherlands joined the board. At 14:00 the visit started with a presentation about BARCO. It became clear that the company has Belgium roots because BARCO stands for Belgium American Radio Company. Originally their core business was radio components, but gradually it shifted towards visualization solutions such as the well-known projectors and LED walls. BARCO technology is widely used at main (pop-/art-/scientific-) events. Finally BARCO’s new and impressive digital projector was demonstrated with a movie trailer of King Kong in the same room. The exhibition rooms then showed us how the products of BARCO provide solutions for a multitude of scenarios. We also visited the production facilities of LED wall-components. Different resolution screens are made at BARCO for different situations. A drink in the main lobby of BARCO concluded the most enjoyable visit.
