Resource Person:
Shri B. A. Subramani is the Secretary & Station-In-Charge of ISRO's Upagrah Amateur Radio Club. He joined ISRO in the year 1984 and working as a 'Assistant Engineer' in the area of Space simulation and environmental test facilities. Since then, he has involved himself in conducting environmental and space simulation tests on various systems and payloads of all spacecrafts including, Chandrayaan-1 and Mars Orbiter Mission.
He is a Radio Ham since 1986, holding License with radio call-sign VU2WMY. He has bagged many appreciations like, the Trans-India Contest: Winning first place consecutively for five years. He is one of the founder members of AMSAT-INDIA, an organization for the design, development and launching of Amateur Satellites in India. Currently, he is actively engaged in promoting the fascinating hobby of Ham Radio among students by conducting several live HAM demo, workshops and delivered talks.
Mr. S. Sathyapal is a Director of Indian Institute of HAMs, Karnataka Chapter. He is also a President of Rajiv Gandhi Radio Repeater Foundation of India and Governing Council Member of National Institute of Amateur Radio, Hyderabad (Apex body for HAM Institutes in India). His Institute provides Ham Communication for many National Championship Car Rallies in India as Communication Chief.
He awarded with Rajiv Gandhi National Award winner in the year 1995 and 1996 (Two consecutive years) for the best promotion of Ham Radio activities in India. Award was given away by Smt. Sonia Gandhi who is also a HAM. Also awarded with Dera Gold Medal for Meritorious Achievement and Service by DISASTER PREPAREDNESS & EMERGENCY RESPONSE ASSOCIATION, U.S.A.
About The Workshop:
The "Field Demonstration of HAM Radio and Technical Talk on Satellite Communications" was an exhaustive held for students and faculty of all schools of REVA University to experience the live demonstration of HAM (Amateur) Radio within REVA University campus. In addition, Shri B.A. Subramani, Secretary & Station-In-Charge of ISRO's Upagrah Amateur Radio Club has given technical talk on Satellite Communications.
In technical talk, participants learned that, the HAM is an entry point of Satellite Communications. The Amateur License holder can takeup antenna design projects and maintain these antennas. The resource person also encouraged students to take up satellite design projects in association with ISRO. Even without Amateur License, anyone can make use of software to receive satellite signals. All students and faculty took part in live demonstration of HAM Radio and had conversation with other HAM Licensed persons from Mysore, Westbangal and so on. All had hands on experience of using walky talky.
