Dr. Anwar-ul-Haq apprised the audience with the
achievements of PCSIR in last fifty years. He reiterated the need of investment
in the R&D sector to make this country self-reliant and to meet the challenges
of new millennium. He also congratulated the IIEE in making its contribution in
providing “unmatched” and highly trained manpower to local industry, with very
limited resources. He also announced cash prizes for the first three best papers
to be presented in e-Indus 2003. Engr Abul Kalam and Engr. Samir Hoodhbhouy gave
accounts on the growth of engineering education and S&T activates in Pakistan,
respectively. Mr. Shahid Suleman Jan briefed the audience about history, and
current activities of IEEE Karachi Section.
Mr. Ahmed Rabbani, Chairman
IIEE-IEEE Student branch gave welcome speech in the beginning of the session,
and Dr. Naimat Ali Rizvi, Principal IIEE concluded the session by his vote of
thanks.
Eight projects (and their
papers presentations) from different electrical engineering institutes were
selected out of twenty submissions for the project exhibition. Students, faculty
members and professionals showed interest in these projects.
Papers were presented in two Technical Sessions. In the
first session, Dr. Valiuddin, Chairman Computer Department, AMI, Iqra University
was the session chair, and Engr. Arsalan Minhas of IEEE Karachi Section assisted
the chair as Session Secretary. Dr. Zubair A Shiekh, Chairman CS Department,
FAST-National University, Karachi chaired the second session and Mr. Shahab
Siddiqui, Assistan Professor, Hamdard University assisted him as session
secretary.
Following presentation were
graded as first, second and third respectively, by the jury.

the topic of the panel discussion. Dr. Irfan Hyder,
Dean & VP of PAF-KIET, Dr. Zubair A Shiekh
represented the academia, where as
Engr. Imranul Haque, Manager Engro Chemical
Pakistan and Mr. Shahid Khan of NRL
represented the industry. Mr. Adil Riaz,
Sr. Consultant of PWC Consulting conducted the panel
discussion. This was most interesting and
well-attended session of the day. The e-Indus 2003 thankful
