Women in Engineering





We are very pleased to announce the formation of the Kharagpur WIE affinity group. IEEE's Women in Engineering Group is a community of women and men supporting women and girls in their endeavors. The group is dedicated to promoting the importance of women in engineering, increasing career opportunities and providing a professional, social and support network for women.

Our Mission

WIE's mission is to Inspire, Engage, Encourage and Empower women worldwide. It is dedicated to facilitating the development of programs and activities that promote the entry into and the retention of women in the Engineering and science related programs and enhance the career advancement of women in the profession.

Our Vision

IEEE WIE is engaged in building a collaborative work environment to:
  • Support IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) activities worldwide.
  • Prove outreach to young women interested in science and engineering.
  • Facilitate the exchange and debate of issues associated with women in engineering.
Women are one growing source for the enterprises. They offer complementarity in projects and in the decision making process.


WIE's dedication
  • RECOGNIZES women's outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics engineering through IEEE Awards.
  • ORGANIZES receptions at major technical conferences to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE.
  • ADVOCATES women in leadership roles in IEEE governance and career advancement for women in the profession.
  • PROVIDES assistance with the formation of new WIE Affinity Groups and supports ongoing activities.
  • ADMINISTERS the IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program to mentor young women in junior high school and high school.
  • PROMOTES member grade advancement for women to the grades of Senior Member and Fellow.
  • FACILITATES the development of programs and activities that promote the entry into and retention of women in engineering programs.
Activities
  • Have organized workshop on "low power embedded systems for medical applications" on 14th and 15th June, 2009.
  • Have organized Free pediatric health check-up camp on 14th February, 2009.
  • Have organized Free Health Check-Up Camp on 15th August,2009.
  • Have organized Book donation and health check-up camp on 12th September,2009.
Future plans
  • Model making and poster presentation competition for school students to develop interest towards science and technology.
  • Essay writing competition for school students.
  • Different awards like best young woman scientist, best woman engineer graduate and so on to increase the interest.
  • All the awards will be under the brand name of 'Lilavati', the great mathematician.
