Objective:

Peer to peer learning in a networked environment is a trend which is gaining popularity among young professionals and peer groups with similar research interests. IEEE as an organization promoting networked interactions among engineering professionals is passively helping in building up these interactions in local groups. PEER as a program promises to uphold this objective of IEEE in enriching knowledge pool among professional engineers and their research peers through conducting periodic interaction sessions at different levels, on the local as well as global fronts, utilizing the latest developments in information and communication technology, easily accessible by the masses.

Framework:

PEER is a program aimed at having a global impact and not just limited to the reach of the IEEE local groups around Kharagpur. The program will have the following aspects to make a global impact-
  1. Talks and Presentations by Researchers at IIT Kharagpur and IEEE affiliates. It will be conducted during periodic local gatherings, at departmental facilities. The whole event is to be recorded and archived for future reference. A web based live conversation service will allow interactions among attendees without them being physically present at the venue. Revenue free web based services like DimDim, Skype and Google VideoChat can be used for hosting live conversation, and YouTube can be used for archiving of videos on a customized video channel. Presentations and reference documents can be archived on eSnips.
  2. Talks by Eminent Inventors and Technology Pioneers. Speakers from industry and academia are invited to present their experience and ideas in their specific fields of research. This would lead to a glimpse into the professional world of engineering and research, and would have a high impact in helping young professional in deciding on their career path in the future. Since it would not always be possible for the speakers to be physically present with IEEE Kharagpur local groups, a web based conference service is acceptable. Skype and Google VideoChat can be used for hosting live conversation, and YouTube can be used for archiving of videos on a customized video channel. Presentations and reference documents can be archived on eSnips.
