The 2001 Electronic Materials And Packaging(EMAP) Conference

at Jeju, Korea during November 19 - 22, 2001.

This year EMAP at Jeju was successfully held at the beautiful Jeju
Island Hyatt Hotel during November 19th through 22nd 2001. EMAP2001 was organized
by the KAIST, IEEE-CPMT Daejon Chapter, and IMAPS-Korea. Prof. Kyung W. Paik
at KAIST, the chair of CPMT Daejon Korea Chapter, and Prof. S.B. Lee at KAIST
organized the 2001 EMAP conference as general chairs. IEEE-CPMT supported the 2001
EMAP as a technical supporter and a conference proceeding publisher.

There were total about 140 people registered from all around the world
inculding, Japan, Singapore, HongKong, Taiwan, China, Germany, England, Finland,
US, and (of course) Korea. There were two short courses, "An Introduction to Substrate
Based Semiconductor Packaging" by Dr. C.E. Bauer and "Flip Chip, CSP, Wafer Level Package
Reliability Issues and Solution" by Dr. Horatio Quninones on Nove,ber 19th, 2001.

From 20th to 22nd, 100 papers including 5 keynote and 8 invited speeches on emerging
packaging technologies are presented at the 21 technical sessions. Lots of good
quality papers were presented at the "Flip Chip, Materials/Processes, Advanced
Packaging, Packaging Reliability, and Model/Test" sessions.

During the EMAP steering committee meeting, it was decided that next
2002 EMAP will be hosted by Taiwan. Dr. Shen Li Fu and Dr. Kwang-Lung Lin at Taiwan
showed strong interest to hold the 2002 EMAP at Taiwan. As a result, EMAP conference
will be a truely Asia regional electronic packaging and materials starting from
Singapore in 1999, HongKong in 2000, this year at Korea, and next year at Taiwan
Kaoshung area during November frame.
