CPMT Award Luncheon
IEEE Field
President Phil Garrou presided over the June 2 ECTC Award Ceremony.
First IEEE President
W. Cleon Anderson announced Yutaka Tsukada now of Kyocera
as the winner of the prestigious IEEE Field Award for the Components,
Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology.
Yutaka Tsukada work was centered on high density, chip bump mounted,
low cost printer wiring board development which is now used in
most consumer electronics.
Society Awards
All the annual CPMT Society Award winners were recognized.
**Prof. James E. Morris
of Portland State University won the "David Feldman Outstanding
Contributions Award" for electrically conductive adhesive
work and Society leadership roles.
**I. Charles Ume
of Georgia institute of Technologies was recognized for contributions
to thermomechanical packaging reliability with the "Outstanding
Sustained Technical Contribution Award."
**Robert C. Pfahl of iNEMI received the "Electronics Manufacturing
Technology Award" for process, environmental and industrial
collaboration advancement.
**Tseug-Yuen Tseng
of Chiao-Tung University accepted the "Exceptional Technical
Achievement Award for electronic ceramics advances.
**Lara J. Martin
of Motorola was named the "Outstanding Young Engineer Award"
winner for product development and Society activities.
Chapters
The West Ukraine Chapter received the 2005 Chapter of the Year
Award, and the University of Arkansas locked up the Student Chapter
2005 Award. Students
Matt Kelly, Coln Furrow, and Chris Thompson received the award
from President Phil Garrou
Transactions
Vice President Paul
Wesling awarded three 2004 transaction Papers.
**The transaction of Components and Packaging best paper award
went to "Characterization of Hygroscopic Swelling behavior
of Mold Compounds and Plastic Packages" by University of
Maryland and DRS Technologies. Bongtae
Han of U of Maryland accepted.
**The best paper in the 2004 Transaction on Advanced Packaging
was "Design of Integrated Low Noise Amplifiers Using Embedded
Passives in Organic Substrates by Georgia Institute of Technology.
Vinu Govind and Madhavan
Swaminathan accepted.
**The 2004 Commendable Paper Award went to "The SOP for Miniaturized,
Mixed-Signal Computing, Communication, and Consumer Systems of
the Next Decade" by a gang of 15 from Georgia Institute of
Technology. A large percentage of the audience accepted the award.
Fellows
Paul B. Wesling and William D. Brown were given the official plagues
for achieving Fellow grade within the IEEE. In Picture: Paul, Phil, Bill, and Cleon.
