As part of the 50th Anniversary of the EMC Society
of the IEEE, a 50th Anniversary lapel pin was flown on the NASA
Space Shuttle. This was arranged through NASA by co-author Bob
Scully, a member of the EMC Society Board of Directors, who made
the necessary arrangements through appropriate channels.
The designated lapel pin was placed on Space Shuttle Program Flight
STS-118, and was flown between 8 August and 21 August 2007.
The pin will be mounted on a plaque and presented to IEEE for
display at its headquarters in Piscataway, New Jersey. It is planned
to officially present the plaque to the President of the IEEE
in the near future, and it is hoped that the plaque will reside
in a prominent location at IEEE Headquarters.
The EMC Society is enjoying a yearlong celebration of its 50th
anniversary of its acceptance as a Society in 1957. What a great
way to celebrate this momentous occasion with an out of this world
voyage into space! EMC
