Year 2004 EMC Society Pre-audit Financial Summary

IEEE’s 2004 pre-audit financial report indicates that EMC Society 2004 operations yielded a net surplus of $527,000. The major factors contributing to that surplus were the continued “up-turn” in the finance market and the surplus from both the 2003 and 2004 Symposiums were received in 2004. The Society’s 10 year financial history is reflected in the surplus/deficit bar graph below.
EMC Society 2004 gross revenue was $1,125,000. Of that total, Periodical Subscriptions and Author Charges income was $309,000; Newsletter Ads provided $65,000; Conference Surplus (from the 2003 and 2004 symposiums) contributed $527,000; revenue from Member Fees was $91,000 and Market Fluctuation was a positive $124,000 (in effect, this market gain covered all IEEE administration and infrastructure costs). The 2004 income pie chart below reflects the percentage, of the total, for each revenue category. The Society’s 2004 expenses (excluding symposium finances that are administered by the symposium Treasurer) were $607,000. Of that total, Periodical production and distribution costs were $133,000; the Newsletter cost $131,000 to print and distribute; Society committee expenses were $159,000; and, IEEE administrative support/infrastructure costs were $184,000.
