We have three new Distinguished Lecturers (DLs) for 2003-2004!
These gentlemen are profiled below. They have recently begun their
two-year terms as the newest Distinguished Lecturers of the IEEE
EMC Society. They join Keith Hardin of Lexmark and Cheung-Wei
Lam of Apple Computer whose terms expire on December 31 of this
year. We also extend our thanks and appreciation to our three
outgoing DLs, Dr. Maria Sabrina Sarto, Dr. Bud Hoeft, and Colin
Brench, whose terms expired in December 2002.
Before introducing Bruce, Michel and Chris, I want to acknowledge
the contributions of Sabrina, Bud, and Colin over the past two
years. During their terms, they volunteered to spend days away
from home and family in planes, cars, and shuttle busses in order
to give presentations all over the Unites States and Europe. The
Distinguished Lecturer Program depends on these bright and learned
volunteers who can make an EMC Society Chapter meeting or special
event a very fun and educational experience. We received many
compliments about their respective presentations from Chapter
Chairmen over the past two years. Bravo DLs!

Dr.
Bruce Archambeault is a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM
in Research Triangle Park, NC. He received his BSEE degree from
the University of New Hampshire in 1977 and his MSEE degree from
Northeastern University in 1981. He received his Ph.D. from the
University of New Hampshire in 1997. His doctoral research was
in the area of computational electromagnetics applied to real-world
EMC problems.
In 1981 he joined Digital Equipment Corporation and through 1994
he had assignments ranging from EMC/TEMPEST product design and
testing to developing computational electromagnetic EMC-related
software tools. In 1994 he joined SETH Corporation where he continued
to develop computational electromagnetic EMC-related software
tools and used them as a consulting engineer in a variety of different
industries. In 1997 he joined IBM in Raleigh, NC where he is the
lead EMC engineer, responsible for EMC tool development and use
on a variety of products. During his career in the US Air Force
he was responsible for in-house communications security and TEMPEST/EMC
related research and development projects.
He has presented papers, organized "Introduction to EMC Modeling"
and "EMC Modeling Applications" workshops, as well as
special sessions on EMC Modeling at the annual IEEE EMC symposium
for a number of years. He is an active member of the TC-9 subcommittee.
He has served as a past Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions
on Electromagnetic Compatibility. He is the author of the book
"PCB Design for Real-World EMI Control" and the lead
author of the book titled "EMI/EMC Computational Modeling
Handbook."
The topics he can present include "Introduction to EMC Modeling
and Simulation," "Eliminating the Myths for Proper PCB
Power/Ground Plane Decoupling," and "Design Strategies
for Real-World EMC Design of PCBs."

Ianoz (Senior Member IEEE 85, Fellow IEEE 96, Dr. Hon. Causa
99) was born in 1936. He received the B.S. degree in electrical
engineering in 1958 from the Politechnical Institute Bucharest
Rumania and the Ph.D. degree in 1968 from the Moscow University.
He worked on magnetic field calculations for particle accelerators
and focusing devices in different Nuclear Research Centers among
which the Unified Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna (USSR)
and the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva.
Since 1975 he joined the Power Network Laboratory of the Swiss
Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Switzerland) where he has
been teaching EMC as a Professor of the Electrical Department.
His teaching activity has been dedicated first on High Voltage
Engineering in Lausanne and at the Interafrican Engineering University
in Abidjan (Ivory Coast). In 1985 he introduced for the first
time in Switzerland a course on EMC which is now required for
all the students of the Electrical Department of the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology of Lausanne. His research activity on
EMC began in 1978. His interests are dedicated to the calculation
of electromagnetic fields, modelling of field-to-transmission
line coupling, transient phenomena, lightning and EMP effects
on power and telecommunication networks. His research on EMP has
been performed since 1978 and on lightning electromagnetic effects
since 1987. He is co-author of the books "High Voltage Engineering"
and "EMC Analysis Methods and Computational Models."
He is also the author or co-author of about 140 scientific papers,
some 60 of which appeared in internationally reviewed journals
and conferences. Professor Ianoz is Chairman of the Subcommittee
77B (HF phenomena) of the International Electrotechnical Commission
(IEC), member of the WG36.04 of CIGRE and President of the Swiss
Committee of the URSI. He has been representing Switzerland in
the European Program SCIENCE from 1992 to 1995 and COST 243 and
COST 261 from 1993 to 2002. He has served many years as an Associate
Editor of the IEEE Transactions on EMC. He is an EMP Fellow since
1994 and an IEEE Fellow since 1996. His presentation topics include:
"Field-to-Transmission Line and Shielded Cable Coupling.
Modeling and Validation," "Lightning Electromagnetic
Effects," "EMC Problems Related to Power Line Communication
(PLC)" and "Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields."

Kendall has over 39 years of direct EMC design and test experience
with Military, Avionics and Commercial products. He has done extensive
design work on the heads-up display and other systems for the
A-6, A-10, F-111, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22, Apache Helicopter,
Comanche Helicopter and others. Mr. Kendall has also presented
seminars worldwide regarding EMC Design, HIRF, ESD, and EMC measurement.
He is an ANSI C63 Subcommittee member, an ANSI medical standards
committee member, an EMC consultant to HIMA, an SAE AE-4R Sub-committee
chair, and a NARTE Senior EMC Engineer. He is currently the Principal
Consultant and CEO of CKC Laboratories, Inc.
