How Can I Get a Copy of an Abstracted
Article?
Engineering college/university libraries, public libraries,
company or corporate libraries, National Technical Information
Services (NTIS), or the Defense Technical Information
Center (DTIC) are all possible sources for copies of abstracted
articles or papers. If the library you visit does not
own the source document, the librarian can probably request
the material or a copy from another library through interlibrary
loan, or for a small fee, you can order it from NTIS or
DTIC. Recently it became clear that EMCABs were more timely
than publications which were being listed in data files.
Therefore, additional information will be included, when
available, to assist in obtaining desired articles or
papers. Examples are: IEEE, SAE, ISBN, and Library of
Congress identification numbers.
As the EMC Society becomes more international, we will
be adding additional worldwide abstractors who will be
reviewing articles and papers in many languages. We will
continue to set up these informal cooperation networks
to assist members in getting the information or contacting
the author(s). We are particularly interested in symposium
proceedings which have not been available for review in

Abstract: In this paper, the FDTD method is used to study
shielding effectiveness varied with slot length, width and cavity
size. The results show that slot resonance will occur when the
slot perimeter reaches odd times of wavelength of incident wave.
The shielding effectiveness would become rather poor in such cases.

Abstract: One of the major sources of radiated EMI is attributed
to power bus resonance in a printed circuit board (PCB). A fast
algorithm, combined with the segmentation method, is applied for
calculating resonance characteristics of a power bus whose pattern
consists of several segments of rectangles and/or right-angled
triangles. Good agreement between the calculated and measured
results demonstrates the usefulness and accuracy of the fast algorithm
and the segmentation method.

Abstract: It is well known that electromagnetic (EM) energy
is absorbed in-homogeneously in the human body even for plane-wave
exposure. This implies that local resonance for various individual
organs may occur. In order to investigate this implication, we
analyzed numerically the organ resonance characteristics in the
frequency range from 30 MHz up to 3 GHz with an anatomically based
high-precision human body model and a parallel finite-difference
time-domain (FDTD) technique. As a result, we found that the whole-body
resonance occurring around 65 MHz causes the local resonance for
all the organs at the same frequency. Local resonance peculiar
to each of organs was also found to occur around 900 GHz for the
brain, eyes and heart, 600 MHz for the testicles, and so on.

Abstract: In this paper, distribution of the electromagnetic
field generated by an electrostatic discharge spark in a metallic
cavity is analyzed using the FDTD method. A numerical model of
the field distribution is established. The field distributions,
while discharging at the center of the cavity and at the center
of the cavity wall, are calculated respectively using the model
and some conclusions are drawn.

Abstract: Prediction and analysis for inter-system electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) are studied in this paper. To study the EMC
status of the systems quantitatively, an electromagnetic interference
margin (IM) is adopted. Compared with the IM of an inter-system,
whether the electromagnetic interference (EMI) occurs among the
systems or not can be known. Prediction and analysis of inter-system
EMC are done in the information platform; some conclusions and
some primary interference suppression steps are made.

Abstract: To evaluate radiated immunity/susceptibility
characteristics for the chassis of an electronics product with
a complex configuration, the authors have proposed a new test
method using an electromagnetic field whose polarization rotates
slowly. By using this method, three-dimensional characteristics
are depicted such that weak/strong directions against various
field polarizations could be obtained easily. In this paper, as
an application of this method, a tower-type personal computer
chassis is considered and its three dimensional characteristics
are obtained. It should be mentioned that it is very difficult
to theoretically evaluate and/or estimate the above characteristics.
Therefore, the proposed test method would be expected in a phase
of developing products.

Abstract: Although there are some international or national
standards that recommend a measurement method of electromagnetic
fields for safety purposes, nevertheless, few of them provide
detailed measurement procedures specifically for base stations.
Therefore, we propose a practical measurement procedure to the
Environment Protection Agency (EPA) in Taiwan for measuring electromagnetic
radiation from AM, FM, TV and mobile phone base stations. In this
paper, we present the new proposed measurement method, which is
suitable for the majority of practical situations.

Abstract: Time-domain reflectometry has been widely used
in the measurement of a materials electromagnetic properties.
In order to obtain the spectrum of dielectric constant, the measured
waveforms need to be analyzed by FFT. Because of multi-reflections
in the measured waveform, it is sometimes difficult to extract
a clear reflection for analysis and the final results may not
be accurate. A wavelet modeling method was used in this paper
to extract the frequency-dependant dielectric constant in the
measured time-domain waveform. By transforming the measured signal
into a series of frequency bands and recognizing it according
to the composition of reflections, this method can reduce the
effect of multi-reflections on the measurement results.

Abstract: The RF electromagnetic noise attenuation on a
coplanar transmission line was investigated using the newly developed
spin sprayed Ni-Zn (-Co) soft ferrite films with high resistivity.
The RF noise suppressor was composed of magnetic film/polyimide/Cu
coplanar transmission line/seed layer on glass substrate. The
insertion loss was less than 0.5 dB below 1 GHz and it rapidly
increased in the GHz range by the combination of ferromagnetic
resonance losses and eddy current losses. The coplanar transmission
line with a characteristic impedance of 50 ohm had a 50 mm-wide
and 3 mm-thick signal line. The power loss of the coplanar transmission
line with CoNbZr film was higher than that of Ni-Zn(-Co) ferrites
at GHz range when an 7.5 mm-thick insulating layer was provided
in-between the transmission line and magnetic film. It results
from the large eddy currents in metallic magnetic CoNbZr film
(120 m-ohm cm relatively low resistivity), which is based on the
low resistivity in comparison with that of ferrites films (5.17
x 104 ohm cm - 2.40 x 105 ohm cm). On the other hand, the insulator
below the magnetic film can be removed only for the case of ferrite
because of the high resistivity. Then the power loss became as
large as that of the CoNbZr film with an insulating layer over
1 GHz.

Abstract: In a multilayer PCB (printed circuit board),
chips need layers for DC power supply, i.e. DC ground plane and
DC power plane. Also, these planes are used for RF reference of
signal traces. A signal trace with a through-hole signal via,
which is used for signal layer transition, has a different RF
reference at each signal trace. Therefore, the signal trace has
a loading effect of power/ground planes, which are considered
as a parallel plate cavity with an open boundary condition. Namely,
the signal voltage on traces is coupled to power/ground planes
and the coupled voltage is transferred to the open edge and the
voltage at the open edge is a radiation source. This paper discusses
the loading effect of power/ground planes, the excitation of power/ground
planes by through-hole signal via, and the radiation at the open
edge of power/ground planes. Finally, the De-Cap fence can reduce
the radiation by reducing voltage at the edge.

Abstract: The SMT (Surface Mount Type) ferrite bead used
to reduce power bus noise is modeled in series and parallel circuits
with resistor(R), inductor (L) and capacitor(C). In general, equivalent
circuit modeling doesnt agree with the measurement result.
In this paper, we propose the accurate equivalent circuit model
of the ferrite bead at wide frequency range (50 MHz - 3 GHz) and
analyze the effect to the high speed IC (Integrated Circuit).
