The Electric Machines Committee membership continues to grow.

In response to the call for papers, this year, we received 84 papers from which 56 were accepted.
and 28 were rejected. We have organized 8 sessions with 7 papers per session.

The statistics for the accepted papers are as follows.

Brazil , Canada, Portugal, Belgium, Taiwan, Singapore, South Africa and India, ONE each.

Compared to last year, though the industry participation is low this year, more than half of the papers are directly applicable to industrial products. All the accepted papers are eligible for transaction and prize paper award review. Of the 56 accepted papers, however, I received 44 papers for prize paper and transaction reviews from which 3 prize papers were selected.

TRANSACTIONS REVIEW:

In 1998, I received 53 papers for transaction review of which 23 were accepted. Of these 23 papers, 18 papers are already published or are scheduled to be published, with 5 papers remaining. Of the other 30 papers, 24 papers were rejected and 6 papers were rolled over into the 99 review process because reviewers did not return the scores for them.

For 1999, in addition to 44 conference papers, I received 40 more papers which were presented at the IEMDC (IAS sponsored) conference in May ’99. So far 50 papers are well in the process and the remaining 44 are in the process of being mailed to the reviewers.

I would like to point out at this time that with 90 papers going out, I need more than 150 committed reviewers to critically evaluate the papers and that too, in limited time. At present we have a ONLY LIMITED number of reviewers who carry this heavy load and the EMC can certainly use some help from few more dedicate reviewers. So please come forward and sign up your name and the fields of interest.

BUDGET FOR 2000: A budget of $650, to include about $250 for postage in addition to $400 for the prize papers awards, is requested.
