POWEREX Tour - Tuesday October 15th

Powerex is a pioneer in high power semiconductor applications, turning ideas into cost effective, practical products.

Founded in 1986, Powerex resulted from an alliance between General Electric Company, Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. In 1994, Westinghouse sold its shares to General Electric and Mitsubishi Electric, the present equal majority shareholders.

Powerex and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation were among the first companies worldwide to mass produce the Darlington Power Module. The Powerex alliance with Mitsubishi is instrumental in providing a superior technological base for future product development.

Based in Youngwood, Pennsylvania, just 35 miles from Pittsburgh, the Powerex corporate location includes a 90,000 square-foot manufacturing facility where its line of rectifier and thyristor products are made. Incorporating advanced production technology and environmental control, the process at the Powerex manufacturing facility starts with raw silicon wafers, including a diffusion process, and utilizes a state-of–the-art clean room that ensures the highest degree of component reliability. The clean room and a Hi-Rel testing area, are among the highlights on this technical tour.

The tour will begin with a brief introduction to POWEREX. Guests will be broken up into groups of 6-8 people. Each group will have a tour guide. Lunch will be at the Westmoreland County Community College banquet room. The college is adjacent to POWEREX.
