January: Follow up on the topic of the high speed Amtrak Train was suggested. This topic was presented 3 years prior. The train has not yet been placed in service. The meeting was suggested to discuss issues with the project and be a joint meeting with the Professional Engineering Society of Mercer County.
December, or later: Discussion was made about alternative energy being the latest hot topic. Therefore efforts will be made to hold meetings on any of the following topics: * Flywheels * Fuel Cells * Microturbines * Photovoltaics * Wind mills Photovoltaics was chosen as the topic of choice. Microturbines has been a topic in recent years but may be revisited if organizing a meeting on Photovoltaics is difficult. The DLP for photovoltaics was chosen as the speaker of choice on this topic, however, a local photovoltaics company may also be pursued for this topic.
January: The Distinguished Lecturer Program was discussed. Edmund Schweitzer was chosen as a DLP of choice. This will be pursued for the month of January.
February: Plant tours are always a great way to get members involved. There is a cable testing plant on Rt. 1 that was previously owned by Okonite.
April: Of general interest to all Electrical Engineers is Thomas Edison. A tour will be arranged of the Edison Tower Museum. Hours may have to be flexible to accommodate members and museum availability. Also, either Rutgers University or Middlesex College will be included in the meeting. This meeting shall be planned for April.
May: All of the rides at Great Adventure require great engineering support. A tour shall be arranged to view the park power system and pumping station. This meeting shall be planned for May. Timing may need to be flexible to accommodate the park operating schedule. Various topics related to deregulation. The format could be seminar or tutorial format, depending on the interest. Issues may include technical challenges, automatic trading, the general future of the electric power industry.
Fusion: Is this the future?
Emerging technologies: Applications of intelligent techniques: Neural Network, Bayesian Network, Fuzzy Logic, GA, ..etc., Renewable Energy Sources: Water, Solar, Wind, ... etc.
