ABSTRACT

Amtrak is bringing high speed trains to America in 1999.

The presentation will provide an in-depth look at equipment design, production, electrification and track work. The presentation will give an overview of the state-of the art equipment and world class amenities, as well as take alook at the economic and environmental benefits of thigh speed rail.

Amtrak's service will be the first high-speed rail in America and will feature U.S. technology, amenities tailored to American travelers, state-of-the-art safety features built into equipment and trackage. Service will link downtown Boston with mid-town Manhattan in three hours, and New York with Washington D.C. in under three hours.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Based at Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, Audrey Milroy is the Director of the four Amtrak Centralized Electrification and Traffic Control (CETC) centers in the Northeast Corridor. A 14-year veteran of the reailroad industry, Ms. Milroy oversees operation of the control centers in the Northeast Corridor, including the dispatching and monitoring of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor train traffic and the electrification distribution system. She is credited with installing Amtrak's first control center as well as managing major software command and control center for passenger railroads, the military and utility companies.

When high-speed rail launches in 1999, Ms. Milroy's personal role int he project will entail the responsibility for dispathing all train traffic. Her extensive experience makes her an ideal candidate to discuss the high-speed rail system.
