Distinguish Lecture Programme

IEEE Power and Energy Society, Malaysia Chapter
Malaysian National Committee of CIGRE &
TNB Research Sdn. Bhd

Invite you to a lecture on

Switching Surges

Prof. Emeritus Hermann W. Dommel
The University of British Columbia

Date: 27th. September 2010
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Venue: Auditorium Ilmiah, TNB Research Sdn. Bhd.

Background

Dr. Hermann Dommel is known for his work on electromagnetic transients in power systems. He is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Prior to joining the University in 1973, he worked for Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon, USA, on various computer programs, including what became known as the EMTP. He has taught short courses on electromagnetic transients for utilities and universities around the world. He is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, IEEE. From 1995 to 2000 he held the Industrial Research Chair sponsored by B.C. Hydro and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Dr. Hermann Dommel was one of the originators of a computer program for solving electromagnetic transients in power systems and widely regarded as the ‘Father of EMTP’. The solution techniques that were developed with his graduate students and colleagues are now used in various ‘EMTP-type’ programs, such as MicroTran, PSCAD, EMTPRV, etc.

He has always been interested in continuing education for practicing engineers. He has taught in many short courses around the world, and edited and published a quarterly EMTP Newsletter from 1979 to 1985, which had subscribers in many countries. In September 2010, Dr. Dommel will be visiting our region for several DLPs (Distinguished Lecture Programme) organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Inc.

On behalf of IEEE-PES, Malaysia, MNC-CIGRE and TNB Research Sdn. Bhd., we would like to invite you to register and attend this lecture. It is very rare to have such a distinguished person to be in Kuala Lumpur sharing first-hand experience, therefore do not miss this opportunity.

IEEE International Conference on Power Energy (PECon 2010) - 29th November 2010 to 1st December 2010

The 2010 IEEE International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon 2010) will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between 29 November 2010 to 1 December 2010. The previous conference, PECon 2008 was successfully held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia attended by presenters of over 300 papers from over 40 countries.  Papers of PECON2008 has been indexed in IEEE Xplore, SCOPUS and ISI Web of Science. PECon 2010 is organized to invite international delegates, to Kuala Lumpur to share their latest researches besides getting to know Malaysia.

The aim of this conference is to provide engineers  and  academia with the  opportunity  to  explore recent development, current practices and future trends  in power and energy. It is hoped that this conference will provide a unique platform for discussing issues and development in electrical power, power electronics and energy along with establishing international relationship and exchanging ideas among the delegates.

PECon 2010 is jointly sponsored by the IEEE Malaysia Power & Energy (PE) Chapter and IEEE Malaysia Power Electronics  (PEL), Industrial Electronics (IE) and Industrial Applicatiions (IA) Joint Chapter . The conference program will feature tutorials, technical paper presentations and technical exhibition.

The proceedings of PECON 2010 will be included in the IEEE Xplore database. Based upon past PECON conferefence, the proceedings of PECON2008 has been included in IEEE Xplore database, SCOPUS and ISI Web of Science.
