AIM 2020 Converting to a Virtual Event https://depts.washington.edu/aim20/2020/11/07/aim-2020-converting-to-a-virtual-event/ Sat, 07 Nov 2020 02:44:05 +0000 https://depts.washington.edu/aim20/?p=330 Dear AIM 2020 participants:

The safety and well-being of all conference participants is our priority. IEEE has been monitoring the developing COVID-19 pandemic (Coronavirus).

The World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 (Coronavirus) to be a pandemic. Many governments have enacted travel bans and numerous states and local governments are prohibiting large or even moderately sized public gatherings. Such bans on travel and public gatherings are likely to increase in number and scope in the coming weeks.

After studying and evaluating the announcements, guidance, and news released by relevant national departments, we are sorry to announce that the in-person gathering of The 2020 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2020), scheduled to be held July 6-10, 2020 in Sheraton Boston Hotel at Copley Place, Boston, Massachusetts, USA has been canceled.

AIM 2020 will now be held as a virtual conference, to be held July 6 – 10, 2020.

Information on the virtual conference will be confirmed in the coming days.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and please contact aim2020@soe.rutgers.edu with any questions you may have.

Kind regards,

Jingang Yi

Corona Virus (COVID-19) Update 2 https://depts.washington.edu/aim20/2020/11/07/corona-virus-covid-19-update-2/ Sat, 07 Nov 2020 02:41:10 +0000 https://depts.washington.edu/aim20/?p=325 COVID-19 Pandemic Update 2

As you are likely already aware, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic, and now there are many restrictions on travel and in-person convening.

The health and safety of our event participants are of paramount importance to IEEE. We will continue to monitor travel advisories issued by WHO and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as heed the guidance of local and regional authorities.  We will continue to work with our partners at Sheraton Boston Hotel at Copley Place, Boston, Massachusetts, USA to remain current on the city’s preparedness to deal with any needs.

Additionally, at this time, the Organizing Committee of The 2020 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2020) scheduled for 6 – 10 July 2020 is discussing the potential to postpone this year’s event, or hold a virtual meeting event should that become a necessity.  This decision will be reached after carefully considering all available information and consulting with the event’s sponsors.  At this time, we expect to be able to provide an update on our plans on or before 5 May 2020.

Travel Booking Guidance

At this time, we encourage you to book a flight that offers a refund or no change fee, or to hold off until a decision is reached. Some airlines may offer refunds if travel is canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check with your airline provider for details.

It is unlikely that travel insurance coverage will apply to the cancellation of your trip due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please read all travel insurance policies thoroughly.

Travel Guidelines

We urge all travelers to keep informed on risks, precautions, and symptoms to make educated decisions. Travelers can check for updated information on the following sites:

As things evolve, the AIM’2020 organizers will continue to closely monitor the situation and development of COVID-19. At this point, we are planning to hold the conference as planned.

  1. All types of submissions are currently under review and the scheduled timelines are still held as planned.
  2. We are currently developing contingency plans, in case that travel restrictions continue. We may consider a purely virtual conference, a hybrid conference with some attendees on-site and others remote, or any other alternative plans.

Further information will be posted on this website when available.

The Procedure of TMech/AIM Concurrent Submission https://depts.washington.edu/aim20/2020/11/06/the-procedure-of-tmech-aim-concurrent-submission/ Fri, 06 Nov 2020 08:32:09 +0000 https://depts.washington.edu/aim20/?p=312 As a flagship conference focusing on mechatronics and intelligent systems, the IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM) brings together an international community of experts to discuss the state-of-the-art, new research results, perspectives of future developments, and innovative applications relevant to mechatronics, robotics, automation, industrial electronics, and related areas. The AIM is co-sponsored by IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES), and ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division (DSCD). IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics (TMech) is a bimonthly periodical that is also jointly sponsored by RAS, IES, and DSCD. The aim of the journal is to establish a high-quality archival journal which presents the state of the art, recent advances, and practical applications of mechatronics.

The goal of the TMech paper submission with AIM presentation option (i.e., TMech/AIM concurrent submission) is to integrate timely peer-reviewed journal articles with the AIM venue to bring broader impacts on mechatronics research. Please find here the detailed submission procedure and download the Call for Paper here: TMech-AIM-CFP.
